The Adventures
of Mabel
The Adventures of Mabel is a 256 page, classic children's novel by Harry
Thurston Peck for girls age 8-11, or younger as a read-to book.
Story:
When Mabel shows compassion for a trapped lizard king, she is rewarded with a
secret magic tune which, when whistled, immediately makes her able to talk to
animals (the notes for the tune are even given in the book). From there on Mabel
has many wonderful adventures, each chapter being a separate and new story.
My mother read this book to me as a child and I couldn't wait to read it to my
own girls who loved it as much as I did. My family had only the one copy,
however, and over the years my sisters and I have continued to check to see if
perhaps it would be re-issued at some point. The only available copies were
really pricey. So, I was so surprised and delighted when I found this PDF
version online stating that the book is now in the public domain. Thus, I can
pass the link along to you and it is all free of charge.
